About the programme

A child who is fed
is a child who learns.

The Govt. Schools Breakfast Scheme is a nutritious breakfast programme by the Govt. of Telangana implemented by HKM Charitable Foundation — ensuring that every child enrolled in a government school begins their day with a hot, wholesome meal before their first class.

The programme was born out of a simple but powerful observation: hunger in the morning is one of the most silent and overlooked barriers to education. A child who comes to school on an empty stomach cannot focus, cannot participate, and is far more likely to be absent altogether. By putting a nutritious breakfast on every desk before the bell rings, this programme addresses attendance, attentiveness, and nutrition in a single stroke.

The programme began as a pilot in Kodangal in December 2024 — serving 24,000 breakfasts daily across 312 schools in 8 mandals. The results spoke for themselves. Honourable Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy, who visited the Kodangal kitchen personally and witnessed the entire operation firsthand, was deeply impressed — and directed HKM Charitable Foundation to scale the programme phase-wise across the state of Telangana.

"A hunger-free morning is the first step toward a stronger, self-reliant Telangana. Our children's nutrition is the foundation of our State's future."
Sri Revanth Reddy · Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana
Why breakfast matters

A simple meal.
A lifelong return.

A simple breakfast prevents hunger-related fatigue and fuels learning — a small investment with lifelong impact on a child, a family, and a nation.

Increases enrolments
The promise of a hot, free breakfast brings more children to school — and keeps them coming back.
Improves nutrition
A balanced morning meal closes nutritional gaps that home environments often cannot fill.
Enhances academic performance
A fed child is an attentive child — translating into stronger participation and better outcomes.
Future nation building
Healthy, educated children grow into capable adults — the foundation of a stronger Telangana.
Cognitive & emotional development
Consistent nourishment supports memory, focus, and the emotional steadiness children need to learn.
Relief to working parents
For daily-wage families, a guaranteed school breakfast is one less burden in an already long day.
Nutritional Supplement

Every Child Gets Milk — Every Other Day

Alongside the daily hot breakfast, every student enrolled in the programme receives fresh milk on alternate days. This sustained nutritional supplement supports bone development, boosts immunity, and ensures children have the energy to learn — not just in the morning, but through the full school day.
